AMPERSOUND

From around 2020-2022 I released music as part of this project where I aimed to improve my songwriting skills and create a cohesive visual/audio project. I released concept albums with attached music videos, each one telling a story.

Welcome to the archive

Ampersound marked a super significant time in my life and so despite the cringiness of a lot of this project, and the amount of internet trolling I experienced from my classmates in the comment section, I’m deepy connected to and grateful for this project.

This archive exists more for my piece of mind as it holds a lot of significance to me so forgive me if I sound self-obsessed but I’m just very proud of my growth over this project and so happy that I have this to mark that time in my life. Every song for me holds a very specific memory and feeling and I’m so glad I made it.

Wish Resigned

On February 2nd, 2020 I released my first EP. This one isn’t amazing – the mixing is dodgy and I didn’t know much about using digital synths. I’m happy with the creativity, however. The album is based off the idea of being alone in a city past midnight, looking up at the sky and seeing it light up with constellations.

Wish Resigned had one music video which was for the song ‘Wonderful Thing’.

Dopamine

Yeah so I was kinda in my emo phase here and whilst I cringe every time I think about this video, I think it’s a good display of the kinda neon/tech/fuzzy audiovisual style I tended to use through the ampersound project. This whole thing was very synthwave with dizzying colours and I wanted it to be a very ethereal experience. Dopamine, however, is just kinda uncomfortable to watch lol

I dig the song though

1957

Released on October 26, 2020. This one I’m superrr proud of. So each song represents a year from the 50s in chronological order. The whole album is about film/hollywood in the 50s, James Dean, Palm Springs, California but with the space age futuristic touch to it. Imagine a parallel universe where you can see Jupiter floating above the sea at Malibu. Retro cafes, motels, Chevy Bel Airs and pompadours was what I was going for with this one visually and lyrically – however I reflected the spacey touch with the synth music.

I released two music videos for this album.

Peach

After my James Dean phase I had my Call Me By Your Name phase. This whole album is meant to feel like a neverending italian summer in the 80s. All about love and sun and the sea. Some songs I tried to replicate the french speak/singing style. As with a lot of ampersound, it’s kinda cringey at points but I still love a lot of these songs as they remind me of a lot and were a great way to mark phases of my growing up.

Total Transcendence

July 5th, 2021. The final album I released marked my entrance into the psychedelic phase. I was super interested in nature, God, psychedelia. A lot of this album came from a mixture of Ghost Song by the Doors, and Foals’ most recent album at the time – Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost (Part 1). I’m incredibly happy with this album, and to me it has a good distinction between my earlier music. It also marked me gaining more control over my use of synths, and I think the mixing is wildly better than my earlier stuff. I’m so happy with this album.

Ruby and the preview were the only videos I released for this album.
