DUCKCON
August 13, 2025
I completed my short film Duck early this year in Paris and have since been in the process of submitting to film festivals. In order to raise funds, and share this film with an audience back home, I organised a hybrid screening in Brisbane.
It went phenomenally. We screened the film in a hall completely decorated, complete with two massive swan statues from local bar ‘It’s Still a Secret’. Alongside the screening, we sold posters, handmade postcards from film photos I took while in Paris, mocktails, and customised thrifted clothing.

Earlier in the year, rightsholders to a song which played at the end of the film pulled out at the last minute and so, with the help of my friend Marcus and girlfriend Liana, we wrote our own new song which we performed an acoustic version of.
The rest of the evening, my friends, local duo DJ Windom Earle played a chill set.

It was a huge turnout and we raised enough funds to enter into more festivals. Duck has already been selected as a finalist in one Parisian festival and is doing well in Australia too, with some official selections. I’m so happy with how the night went and grateful to every single person who came along, and those who helped with all the preparation, decoration and photography.
I can’t wait to share Duck with even more audiences soon!
